Carol Hullin, PhD, Program Chair
Dr. Carol Hullin has a doctorate in Medical Informatics from the University of Melbourne and a post graduate degree in Artificial Intelligence. She is President of the International Medical Informatics Association Latin America and the Caribbean (IMIA-LAC). She works as a leader in the Division of Medical Informatics of the World Bank and her work takes her to underdeveloped countries managing projects to improve access to healthcare using new technologies. She meets with ministers of health from different countries and creates reports over their computational needs.
Dr. Juan Carlos Puyana, General Chair
Dr. Juan Carlos Puyana is Associate Professor of Surgery and Clinical Translational Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. He is the Past President of the Pan American Trauma Society. Dr. Puyana’s interest in medical informatics relates to education and training in Global Health Informatics in Latin America. He is the Principal Investigator of a D43 training Grant in Colombia and has established several Research and Education collaborative programs with several universities and main trauma centers in Colombia. He is a busy clinical surgeon in Trauma and acute care surgery and therefore he is most interested in multidisciplinary projects aiming at developing low cost - bedside applications and smart technology to aid medical care and research at busy trauma centers in LMICs.
