Call for Papers
Publications
The proceedings of the works presented will published in the Journal of Health Sciences of Puerto Rico (https://prhsj.rcm.upr.edu/). The journal is online and open access. It is published by the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus and is indexed in PubMed, Index Medicus, MEDLINE, SCOPUS, Index Pharmacus, Science Citation Index Expanded (SciSearch®) and Journal Citation Reports/Science Edition. While papers and posters may be submitted in English, Spanish, or Portuguese, the journal will only publish papers in English, but contain an abstract for each of the three languages per paper.
Presentation Policy
All authors are expected to present their work within the Symposium schedule. Authors whose papers are accepted will be eligible for a travel scholarship to SHILAC 2015.

- Any research that addresses the objectives of the conference which are to showcase solutions that have worked to address health disparities in Latin America and the Caribbean and to build collaborations to identify and address concerns in medicine and healthcare in these regions.

Refereed Full Papers
A full length (maximum 8 pages) will be submitted to double-blind review and if it is accepted will be presented in the conference, indexed and published in the conference proceedings with ISBN. The work must be original, and not published previously (except in the form of an abstract or as part of a lecture or thesis). Authors are required to submit a copyright transfer form. Selected refereed papers on engineering education will be invited to submit an expanded version for publication in the Puerto Rico Health Sciences Journal. Before the author registration deadline, at least one of the authors must pay for a FULL CONFERENCE REGISTRATION (not a student registration) and US$50 indexing processing fee.

Extended Abstract for Posters
A two-page manuscript will be submitted to double-blind review and if it is accepted will be presented as a poster in the conference. However, the extended abstract will not be published in the conference proceedings. Before the author registration deadline, at least one of the authors must pay for a FULL CONFERENCE REGISTRATION (not a student registration).

Student Submissions
The authors must be students, and the submission must list the faculty as mentors not authors. The submission can be a full paper (maximum 8 pages) or an extended abstract. Full papers will compete in both the student paper competition and student poster competition. Extended abstracts will compete only in the student poster competition. All accepted student competition submissions will be included and published in the conference proceedings with ISBN. Presentations must be done by students and at least one author must be registered (either student or full registration) by the author registration deadline for the submission to be published.
