Dr. Patricia Ordóñez is an Assistant Professor position at the University of Puerto Rico Río Piedras Campus. She received her BA from Johns Hopkins University. She received her MS and PhD in Computer Science from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). Her research centers on using visualization and data mining (visual analytics) to improve the state of medicine in intensive and critical care units and emergency rooms. She is interested in creating clinical decision support systems that aid medical providers to efficiently diagnose and treat patients and that personalize medicine by applying data mining, machine learning, and visualization techniques to data warehouses of electronic medical data. She is also passionate about diversifying the field of computing by having her students create assistive technologies for programming, video games for good, and courses for high school teachers. She is a former National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow.

Dr. Tyrone W A Grandison is the CEO of Proficiency Labs International, which specializes in supporting organizations design, build and evaluate privacy and security solutions for their systems. He is one of the managing partners of METIS, Inc. - a services company that specializes in solving organizational problems. He co-founded woyhd.org, a service to help consumers to determine the privacy awareness of mobile healthcare apps. He is the co-founder of Hipaantrepeneurs, a service to help healthcare professionals with compliance with healthcare law. He is one of the founding chairs of the Diversity in Privacy and Security Seminar (Di-PaSS) series, which seeks to increase the number of minority professionals and researchers in the privacy and security space. He is a founding partner of Wonder Women Hacks, which is a hackathon dedicated to increasing the number of women in tech, providing a support system for female technologists and helping to solve issues relevant to women. He is a founding partner of Hacks for Humanity (a collaboration with Arizona State University’s Project Humanities), which seeks to develop technology to reconnect people to their humanity. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Technology in Kingston, Jamaica. Dr. Grandison was the CTO/co-founder of EqualityTV, where he lead the platform and technical strategy initiatives. Dr. Grandison has over 20 years experience in software engineering, security and privacy. His work in database security and privacy has been internationally recognized as pioneering and impactful. In addition to relational data privacy and security, he has created and successfully led research and product initiatives in RFID data management, privacy-preserving mobile data management, private social network analysis, text analytics and healthcare management systems.
Dr. Grandison’s career started as a software engineer in Jamaica. He received a B.S. degree in Computer Studies (Computer Science and Economics) from the University of the West Indies in 1997, a M.S. degree in Software Engineering in 1998 and a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the Imperial College of Science, Technology & Medicine in London (2003).
Dr. Grandison is an IBM Master Inventor, a Distinguished Engineer of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a Fellow of the British Computer Society (BCS), a Fellow of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), has been recognized by the National Society of Black Engineers (as Pioneer of the Year in 2009), by the Black Engineer of the Year Award Board (as Modern Day Technology Leader in 2009, and Minority in Science Trailblazer in 2010, Science Spectrum Trailblazer in 2012 and 2013) and has received the IEEE Technical Achievement Award in 2010 for “pioneering contributions to Secure and Private Data Management”. He has authored over a 100 technical papers, co-invented over 47 patents and written several books, including “Practical Privacy Protection Online for Free” and “Trust Management Middleware for Internet Applications: Combining Trust, Recommendation, Risk and Experience”.

Dr. Lourdes A. Medina earned her B.S. in Industrial Engineering in 2006 from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude and obtained the highest recognitions in the graduation commencements: Luis Stefani Rafucci Award, College of Engineering Award and Frederick M. Taylor Industrial Engineering Award. In 2007, she was admitted at The Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University, where she received her M.S. degree in Industrial Engineering in 2009 and Ph.D. degree in Industrial Engineering in 2012. While at The Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Medina is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez in the Department of Industrial Engineering. She teaches courses in Medical Device Development, Automation Processes, Project Management and Linear Programming; and is conducting research in the areas of Systems and Product Design Methods, Medical Devices, Regulations, Complexity Assessment, Decision Support Systems, Manufacturing, Automation, Real-Time Process Control and Engineering Education. Dr. Medina is the IⱭDEAS (Improving Design Decisions in Engineering and Applied Systems) Research Group Leader. This group is dedicated to innovating the development process of products and processes. Dr. Medina has been the recipient of several fellowships such as the GEM Ph.D. Engineering Fellowship, NASA Harriet Jenkins Pre-doctoral Fellowship, Alfred P. Sloan Dissertation Fellowship, Graham Endowed Fellowship, Marie Underhill Noll Graduate Fellowship, and General Electric Fellowship, while also becoming a scholar of the Center for Integrated Health Delivery Systems at Penn State. She is member of Alpha Pi Mu Industrial Engineering honor society, Tau Beta Pi Engineering honor society, and Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE). Currently, she holds the positions of Media Director of the Manufacturing and Design Division of IIE and track Co-Chair of the education track for 2015 Industrial and Systems Engineering Research Conference (ISERC).

Dr. Luis Morales is a Systems Engineer from Universidad del Valle (Cali, Colombia) and holds a Doctorate from Universidad Nacional (Bogota, Colombia) and a Masters in Biomedical Engineering from Universidad Nacional (Bogotá, Colombia). Dr. Morales works in identify biomarkers in different diseases like Rheumatoid Arthritis. Dr. Morales also works as a designer of a system of medical history unified network for public and private hospitals in the Bogotá.
